HISTORY
September
06, 2008, a decade ago, an extreme landslide occurred that caused severe
casualties to some residents of Barangay Masara, Maco, Compostela Valley. This
destructive calamity made the main road unpassable for days. In time, due to
the said incident, the local residents had been cut off and this brought fear
and traumatized the locals. Most had left and resettled to neighboring
barangays, municipalities and other places. There are few who chose to stay and
settle bravely at Masara Elementary School (MES) one of the nearby institutions.
The said place was considered as “THE EVACUATION CENTER”
Masara
Elementary School (MES) became HOME for many families for years. It anchored
and sheltered them from fear and trauma brought by the tragedy. It provides protection
and security to those who stayed. It became a safety place for all of them during
that time.
December
04, 2012, Typhoon Pablo completely surprised Compostela Valley Province and the
rest of the Provinces were affected by the typhoon. It was another traumatic
disaster suffered by the residents. Many lives were lost during the disaster.
When Typhoon
Pablo beats Barangay Masara with its Signal No. 3. Masara Elementary School
once again became the safe place for the affected residents. The school is
being situated in an elevated area. The school stabled facilities like classrooms
and mini gym that serves as their shelter during the Typhoon Pablo. No
casualties and injuries among the residents of Masara were recorded but there
are minimal damaged properties such as electrical connections. Again, the
School became their shelter where they can start building their hope and able
to recover.
As
time went by, Barangay Masara were able to recover and develop slowly. As a
popular saying “There’s no place like Home” and it is where their source of
income as a local mining company exists and operates in the said place. This is
one of the reasons why many local residents who went away came back and lived
here again.
When APEX
Mining Company Inc. flourished, people within the municipalities progressively
increased, settled and got employed there. Due to household increased and
number of children that adds up to the population of the barangay eventually
demands educational support from neighboring schools to cater and to provide education
for the children. Some went to Elizalde Elementary School, Elizalde National
High School, Tagbaros Elementary School, Teresa Elementary School and New Leyte
National High School-Teresa Annex. These schools provided education to the
students.
It
started with some reported incident of students falling from jeepneys and other
service vehicles while on route to school and going home, parents started to worry
for their children’s safety and welfare, and their transportation expenses.
Eventually,
demands from parents to re-open Masara Elementary School to be accessible for
their children. Due to high regards of the Council Members who were mostly
Alumni of MES who became instruments to initiate the re-opening of Masara
Elementary School.
Realizing
all of the desired plans weren’t that easy. It was slow-going due to the demands of
pertinent papers needed to accomplish for the operation of re-opening the
school. The Department of Education (DepEd), Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU),
Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau (MGB), National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP),
BTCL and most especially the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) with their
full support and effort the Elementary and Secondary Extension Schools came
through. It became the extensions of the main schools of Tagbaros Elementary
School and New Leyte National High School. Originally, only Grades 1 to 4 were re-opened
but eventually it now made Pre-school to Grade 10.
Finally,
all plans were realized, everybody was excited to enroll. Concerned citizens continuedly
push the operations despite of the documents needed. Now, the school had
already started its operation and 1st school year Calendar is about to end. Re-opening
the school was the ultimate goal achieved by all of the people who took part on
the initiatives.
Elementary and secondary extension schools were re-opened
together with Mr. Jerry L. Laos as the Head
Teacher II with 12 teachers in the Elementary Department from school year
2017-2020, while the High School Department was headed by Mr. Roy V. Bacalso, Ed. D, Master Teacher I, as the
first Administrator who took in charge the High School Department formerly
known as New Leyte National High School- Masara Annex with 5 teachers from
school year 2017-2018. During its first year of re-opening, it didn’t run
smoothly for everybody especially on the part of the teachers because they were
dependent to the main schools. The scarcity of resources and lack of facilities
were some of the main concerns.
School year 2018-2020, Mr.
Jesuroy N. Tagimacruz, Head Teacher I, supervised the High School Department
with 6 teachers. The number of enrollees increased since it made more
accessible to the other students in the neighboring barangays.
March 2020- November
2020, Mrs. Elizabeth T. Godito, Head Teacher II took in charge after the
reshuffling of the administrator, she temporarily adopted Masara Integrated
School formerly named Tagbaros Elementary School- Masara Extension.
In order to make the name
of the school into Masara Integrated School, the Barangay Captain of Masara
Hon. Douglas A. Dumalagan Jr. and the former School Head of Elementary Department
Mr. Jerry L. Laos together with the stakeholders especially the Barangay Council
of Masara worked out the papers diligently and submitted the remaining
documents needed. After it was all accomplished, it now changed into MASARA
INTEGRATED SHOOL in August 14, 2020
In November 20, 2021, Turn-Over
Ceremony of Masara Integrated School and the Installation of the new School
Head were conducted. It was a historical event since the school achieved a
wonderful milestone wherein stakeholders who went through the process came to
witness the celebration. Congressman of Second District Hon. Ruwel Peter S. Gonzaga, Municipal Mayor Alvera Veronica R. Rimando, MD, FPSMS, RMT, Municipal Vice Mayor Arthur Carlos Voltaire R. Rimando with their Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Members,
representative from Apex Mining Company and the Public Schools District
Supervisor (PSDS) Mrs. Judy P. Noces Ed.D. who personally installed the new Teacher In-charge Mr. Ian C. Casqiujo to take the full responsibility to manage the school.
After all those
struggles, efforts and the cooperation of the stakeholders accompanied with mighty
prayers, Masara Integrated School prospered continuously and did their best to
be one of the well-known schools of Maco South District province of Davao de
Oro.
